Meet Your Teacher

I'm Heidi Mahlon, 1st grade teacher at McFadden School of Excellence. I hold a BS in Early Childhood Education and a M.Ed in Reading, both from MTSU, as well as a Certificate in Instructional Coaching from Lipscomb. My experience includes 19 years in Rutherford County as a teacher in grades kindergarten, 1st, and 3rd, as well as an elementary instructional coach. I also currently serve on the executive board of The Reading League Tennessee and work with leaders around the state to advance the awareness, understanding, and use of evidence-aligned reading instruction. 

My husband, Dan, and I live in Murfreesboro with our two children (Zoey is at Central, and Rob is at Campus), as well as two cats, Peaches and Pluto.

My main goals for your children this year are for them to make great progress in all academic areas and to leave with more knowledge and skills, a LOVE of reading, writing, and learning, an ability to think in a variety of ways to solve problems, and many many happy memories and successes!

Teaching and learning are my passions, and I can't wait to get this year started at the best school in the state! Please let me know if there is anything I can do for you to help you help your child. :)
