About Ms. Baughman
Welcome to McFadden ART!
Hello, I am Shawn Baughman. I graduated from M.T.S.U. with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Painting/ Clay and a Bachelor of Science degree in Art Education. I love museum visits and traveling! I believe creating is an important part of education. However, I am not teaching my students how to become artists. My goal is for the students to become art supporters and thinkers. Art is a valuable means not only express our own thoughts, but an opportunity to explore others. Therefore, I use art as a tool to teach critical thinking and problem solving skills through a combination of art education methods and theories, mainly TAB and DBAE. DBAE is Disciplined Based Art Education, which includes teaching Art Production as well as the study of Art History, Aesthetics, Critique, and Appreciation. The TAB mindset is Teaching Artistic Behaviors, focusing on child-centered art. This allows learners to be more self-directed via art studio centers and therefore, creating more original and independent work incorporating the Studio Habits of Mind.
